Port of Benton Announces Richland Airport Apron Improvement Project

August 18, 2026

RICHLAND, Wash. – Port of Benton started construction on Richland Airport’s Main Apron Improvement Project yesterday, August 17, 2026. Expected to continue through September 30, 2026, the initiative will improve the functionality, safety and long-term durability of one of the airport’s most heavily used operational areas.

Planned upgrades include reconfiguring portions of the main apron to better utilize available space, expanding aircraft parking capacity, strengthening pavement areas identified as having relatively thin pavement and helping protect existing hangar facilities.

This project is funded through the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law Funds, formerly the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act, which aims on improving existing infrastructure.

Construction activities will occur in two designated work areas and will require temporary closures during the project period. One work area will be closed for approximately four days, with closure dates to be determined. (Area shown in green in the attached exhibit.) A second work area will be closed for the full construction period. (Area shown in blue.)

“These improvements will help Richland Airport better serve the needs of pilots, tenants and visitors while positioning the airport for future growth,” said Quentin Wright, Airport Manager. “We appreciate the patience and cooperation of our tenants and airport users as we complete this important infrastructure investment.”

The Port of Benton is committed to maintaining a safe and efficient operating environment throughout construction and will continue to provide updates as work progresses.
