Weekly Construction Update – As part of the Richland Airport Electrical Replacement Project, the Port will be issuing these weekly construction updates to keep the Airport users as well informed as possible in our attempt to limit the impact on airport users.
Runway 08-26 and Taxiway B will be closed Monday morning, August 1st, beginning at 6 a.m., and will be signed closed at both ends and at the runway intersection. Navigation lights on 08-26 and Taxiway B will continue to be off until the end of September. Runway 08-26 will be reopened for the weekend beginning at 4 p.m., Friday, August 5th. At times during the day, the navigational lights on Runway 01-19 may be affected, but should be operational during the evening hours. The contractor may be crossing Runway 01-19 at Taxiway B, but this should be very limited.
Portions of Taxiway B east of Runway 01-19 will remain closed for the weekend due to open trenches, however, full use of Runway 08-26 will still be available.
We do not anticipate contractor equipment parking on the closed runway, however, contractor equipment will be working close to the edge of the paved surfaces, including those close to the runway intersection. Pilots should use caution when taxiing and during landing/takeoffs.
Also, please note that the FAA-controlled Medium Intensity Approach Lighting System off the end of Runway 19 is temporarily out of service due to an underground wiring failure. In order to keep Runway 01-19 fully opened, the repair to the MALSR’s will not happen until after September 6th during the intersection closure.
The project construction is proposed to occur in July – October 2022, weather and supply chain dependent. Until the project contractor is selected by competitive bid, we will not have a detailed date specific schedule. However, since this work requires work adjacent to active runways and taxiways, runway closures will occur.
Construction – Proposed for July – October 2022
Runway 8-26 closed July – August 2022
Both 8-26 and 1-19 runway closures – September 6-24, 2022
Runway 1-19 closed mid-September until the end of October 2022
During the runway intersection closure, we will attempt to have a short temporary displaced threshold on the south end of Runway 1-19.
