RICHLAND, Wash. – Port of Benton plans to finish construction at the railroad crossings that were replaced this fall at Airport Way and Saint Street and begin work on the Kingsgate Way railroad crossing. Rail crews will return to the project on Thursday, January 2.
Airport Way – Electronic rail equipment, wiring, and new LED lights will be installed at Airport Way. No road closure is planned, and there will be only minor impacts to traffic during rail work on both sides of Airport Way.
Saint Street – Installation of new lighted railroad cross buck warning signage. No road closure planned and only minor impact to traffic during rail work on both sides of Saint Street.
Kingsgate Way – All new electronic rail signal equipment will be installed at Kingsgate Way, new wiring and all new LED lights. No road closures are planned but this project will require some lane closures during overhead lighting work. The roads around Kingsgate Way will remain open throughout the project, with minimal traffic interruptions due to single-lane closures.
Work is expected through January 17.
The Port has contracted with Railworks Track Systems to update the Kingsgate Way crossing. Railworks completed replacing the Airport Way and Saint Street rail crossings in October. These projects have been paid for from a $1.03 million Freight Rail Assistance Program (FRAP) Grant via Washington State Department of Transportation and $250,000 in port grant matching funds.
