RICHLAND, Wash. - Port of Benton has completed construction on the Airport Way and Saint Street railroad crossings.
Both crossing projects included replacing the entire railroad crossing with new concrete panels, the paving on both sides and the gate mechanisms. Crews also changed the lights to LEDs.
The Airport Way crossing work occurred between Oct. 4 and 7. The Saint Street crossing was completed between Oct. 18 and 21. Both weekend-long projects required full road closures with marked detours.
The port contracted with Railworks Track Systems to replace both crossings. Each project was funded with a $1.03 million Freight Rail Assistance Program (FRAP) grant via the Washington State Department of Transportation and $250,000 in port grant matching funds.
