Project Update - State Route 240 Rail Crossing
RICHLAND, Wash. - Port of Benton anticipated replacing the State Route 240 rail crossing this summer. However, while the construction drawings and specifications are complete, the Port still awaits approval from our government partners to advertise for construction bids.
This approval is mandatory for receiving the federal funds to help pay for this project.
The Port team is committed to completing this project as soon as possible. We will continue coordinating with our grant partners and expect to have an update soon. Unfortunately, we have no control over the delay.
Project Funding
Port of Benton is paying for the $1.3 million SR 240 rail crossing replacement with an $865,000 National Highway Freight Program grant via the Washington State Department of Transportation and $435,000 in Port matching funds.
Planned Work
- Replace the existing railroad crossing and the crossing’s flashing lights and gates where SR 240 crosses the Port’s railroad track
- Port of Benton will continue asphalt and concrete maintenance on this crossing until it is replaced
The Port will share updates and the resulting construction schedule as soon as they are available to keep you informed.
