RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT
XLSci-Tech is one of several companies in north Richland that has spun off from Battelle - Pacific Northwest Laboratory. The PNNL main campus is adjacent to the Port of Benton's Technology & Business Campus and can provide office and lab space for these budding entrepreneurs. PNNL is a very unique, world class laboratory that conducts research and development work for private sector and government organizations like the Department of Energy. There are over 4000 scientists and engineers at PNNL that have access to the most sophisticated equipment in the world to complete their research projects. State of the art facilities, like the Environmental Molecular Sciences Laboratory (EMSL), are available to qualified companies with new ideas. PNNL also provides entrepreneurial services and guidance for spin-off and start-up companies through their economic development (see http://www.pnl.gov/edo/). The Applied Process Engineering Laboratory (APEL) is another organization that is in place to help hi-tech firms establish businesses in this region. To the south is Washington State University, Tri-Cities branch campus, that is in the process of building a new bio-sciences facility.
